Building the ATMP expertise of the future, starting in Western Sweden

Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) are one of the fastest-growing fields within life science and healthcare. The field includes innovative treatments such as gene therapies, cell therapies, and tissue-engineered products, offering new possibilities to treat and potentially cure severe and previously untreatable diseases.

Sweden has a strong foundation in life science, built on strong research and close collaboration between academia and healthcare. Today, significant efforts are also being made to strengthen the Swedish ATMP field, specifically the transition from research to industry, with the aim of making more and better products available for patients.

This is achieved through several initiatives and strong international collaborations, with the ambition of becoming world leading in the ATMP field in the future. One of these initiatives is SCALE, where skills and knowledge are the focus.

An initiative focusing on workforce development

SCALE, or as the official project name once was ”Stärkt kompetensförsörjning inom avancerade terapier (ATMP)”  combines sustainable upskilling and collaboration!

A virtual center dedicated to addressing skills needs

SCALE is a virtual center dedicated to addressing skills needs within the ATMP sector through an online platform and interactive training initiatives. The project actively supports SMEs, strengthens connections between research and healthcare, and provides knowledge and outreach to stakeholders as well as the wider public to foster the growth of the ATMP ecosystem.

To remain an attractive environment for companies, clinical trials, talent retention, and the scaling of domestic expertise, the Swedish life science ecosystem must adapt to the challenges posed by global competition and the rapid development of the ATMP field. SCALE contributes to this effort by supporting competence development and collaboration, specifically within Region Västra Götaland, but with collaboration nationally and internationally.

Advancing the ATMP Ecosystem

SCALE’s mission is to advance the ATMP ecosystem through education, training, and upskilling initiatives that collect, consolidate, and disseminate knowledge to a broad range of target groups, from the general public and investors to researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry experts.

Partners and Funding
